Step 1

Open Photoshop and create a new document. I used 2560×1440 pixels. Then with the Gradient Tool (G) fill the background with a radial gradient with 2 shades of purple (3d2626) Lighter and (060404) darker.

A couple of weeks back we went through the process of creating a gnarly snowboarding themed website design concept in Photoshop. The tutorial covered the process of designing our site concept from sketch to finished PSD design. Now, let’s take the design to the next step and code up a complete mockup in HTML and CSS, ensuring our code is semantic and standards compliant. We’ll then add some finishing touches with a spot of jQuery.

Amazing Obama 3D

This is a personal project that I’ve been planning for quite some time, and will be part of my demo-reel. Being aware of the amount of work ahead of me, the hours spent, and considering this will last for only a few seconds on the video, I decided to go ahead and model with all there is to it, starting on concepts, then on a simple but functional Basemesh, refining it on ZBrush, Multipass rendering and post-production in Photoshop.

It is all part of the pipeline on character development, and there are many other steps in Maya that weren’t necessary on this case, such as rigging for animating the model as a digital puppet, blend shapes that form the face expressions, and all the animation process with timeline, manipulation of animation curves, trax, etc. After going through all these steps, there’s still rendering, post production, sound editing, final edition, etc.

A few weeks ago I posted a tutorial showing how I created the new Abduzeedo’s 2010 symbol, which will be used for icons, posters, t-shirts and other gears. That tutorial was about the Illustrator walk-through process and in the end there was the light effect version of the symbol that I created in Photoshop.

So in this tutorial I will show you how to create that effect. It’s a sort of monitor/halftone effect mixed with glows and other light effects. We will play with Blend Modes and Blurs. The whole process is quite simple and it won’t take more than 20 minutes to achieve the same result.

Last night I was watching TV and decided to create an image for a Christmas tutorial. I was willing to work a little bit more with Cinema 4D, and as I have seen some Christmas designs with candy canes, I decided to try and design my own candy cane typeface. I also used Photoshop to create the background and the whole composition.

So in this tutorial I will show you how to create a 3D text in Cinema 4D, then in Photoshop we will import the .3DS file and play with it using the Photoshop 3D capabilities. We will also play with some filters, brushes and blend modes to create the effect.
